How does a panic alarm work?

A panic alarm usually works by pressing a button on a device or app. When a panic alarm triggers, the system immediately notifies a monitor via SMS, email, or an online hub. It sends crucial details, including the lone worker’s phone number and location, enabling the monitor to verify the alarm and dispatch assistance directly to the worker.

Monitoring can be carried out in house by the owner or by a monitoring and response center. If monitoring in house, the organization if its installed in a business setting, will assign a monitor or group of monitors who will receive notifications of an alert and will know how to respond according to the organization’s policy. Any verified alerts can be escalated to the police along with any additional information provided by the lone worker system, such as location and notes on who they are meeting with.

If monitoring via a monitoring station, they will verify the alert and escalate to the right channels whether that be back to the organization, to their own team of respondents or the emergency services.
